I ching sun and moon5/17/2023 The sample space has 2 6 × 3 = 2 18 = 262, 144 but they are not all equal-chance. When looking up what the oracle says for the second hexagram, ignore the commentaries about the changing lines those only apply when looking up the first hexagram. The first hexagram would correspond to the current situation and the second hexagram to the future situation. Young lines remain the same between the two hexagrams, but old lines change (from yin to yang or vice versa). The pattern of dots to the right side of the first hexagram determines a second hexagram. If the line is old then draw a dot right next to it to its right side. If the number is outlying (6 or 9) the line is old if the number is in-lying (7 or 8) the line is young. If the number is even (6 or 8) the line is yin if the number is odd (7 or 9) the line is yang. Add up the three values (of a toss outcome) and it should yield a number between 6 and 9 (inclusive). Count a head on a coin as valued 3 and a tail as valued 2. Basically, the I Ching oracle is a game which helps us toward positive principles of life and strategies of wisdom.īuild a hexagram (e.g., drawing it on paper) from the bottom up, for each line throwing three coins to determine whether that line is yin or yang (50% chance either way) and whether that line is “young” (75% chance) or “old” (25% chance). We should consider our situation closely, and then ask ourselves what the selected bit of wisdom drawn means in our situation. When using the oracle, every statement, every question should be interpreted with wisdom. It describes the basis elements of the way to enlightenment (happiness, inner healing, holiness, in God living). The I Ching is a cornerstone of Chinese philosophy. The superior man, in accordance with this, stands firm, and does not change his method (of operation).-> Topic:Eastern philosophy and Taoist Studies (The trigram representing) thunder and that for wind form Héng. When we look at what they continue doing long, the natural tendencies of heaven, earth, and all things can be seen. The sages persevere long in their course, and all under the sky are transformed and perfect. The four seasons, by their changing and transforming, can perpetuate their production (of things). The sun and moon, realising in themselves (the course of Heaven), can perpetuate their shining. (When it is said that) "Movement in any direction whatever will be advantageous," this implies that when (the moving power) is spent, it will begin again. The way of heaven and earth is to be long continued in their operation without stopping. (When it is said that) "Héng indicates successful progress and no error (in what it denotes) but the advantage will come from being firm and correct," this indicates that there must be long continuance in its way of operation. The strong (trigram) is above, and the weak one below (they are the symbols of) thunder and wind, which are in mutual communication (they have the qualities of) docility and motive force their strong and weak (lines) all respond, each to the other:-these things are all found in Héng. But the advantage will come from being firm and correct and movement in any direction whatever will be advantageous. Hăng indicates successful progress and no error (in what it denotes).
